Built to Be Seen, A Corporate Landmark
Innovation drives the design for the groundbreaking Under Armour headquarters on Baltimore’s Peninsula waterfront, a campus that functions as workplace, retail environment, athletic training facility, and an overall authentic extension of the brand’s identity. Lighting is integral to the success of both exterior and interior experiences whilst supporting Net-Zero energy goals within this LEED Platinum project. Sensitive landscape strategies, dynamic façade illumination, and thoughtful interior lighting approaches to celebrate the exposed timber construction, unify the campus, creating a destination that fosters collaboration, athletic excellence, and meaningful community connection.
The façade lighting was carefully designed to reduce light spill and unwanted glare to the workplace interiors by using glare shields and being positioned tight to the glass façade.
The striking 21,000sf stretched tensile ETFE façade became a powerful canvas for brand expression and acts as a beacon for visitors. At night, multiple rows of discreetly mounted, color-changing linear floodlights gently wash the membranes, creating a soft, uniform glow. The installation allows the façade to come alive at night, and is programmed to respond to special events, emphasizing connection with the local community.
Fifty acres of landscaped grounds are illuminated with carefully shielded fixtures, providing safety and security while preserving the night sky and creating a calm, intentional nighttime environment.
